A California Girl’s New York Style Guide

Hello ladies! As you probably know I travel often from California to New York. On my first trip to NYC I was so lost, but ECSTATIC to play with different styles. How I dress on the west coast versus east coast absolutely varies, because for one, New York has seasons. I’ve also noticed I’m much more chic on the east coast, and street style in California. So here’s a little peek inside my head of what goes on when I’m packing my ritual trip to the fashion capital.

For Spring

My favorite time to be in the city! The ice from Winter is melting, but the air is still chilly. Winter is fun if you’re inside but it’s really hard to be stylish when it’s below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The idea of hell for California girl (me). Spring is perfect for light coats, and layered clothing. A colorful coat can really add a pop of style to your outfit. Sneakers are always a good idea because NYC is all about walking. It’s also a great time to be playful and layer skirts with jackets.

Here are a few outfits I’ve worn during spring:

For Summer

I thought I knew heat, until I experienced summer in New York. The city is filled with tourists, and fumes from transportation, that it can be quite difficult to enjoy a day out. No jackets are necessary because even the nights are hot. It’s the perfect time to bring out dresses, and shorts!

Here are some outfits I’ve worn during Summer:

For Fall

One of the best times of the year is Fall in New York City. It’s when the locals can enjoy a day off in Central Park, and a warm breeze. I also pack long sleeves, and comfortable outfits for exploring the city. Only because Fall time is the best time to be out and about in the big apple!

Here are some outfits I’ve worn in Fall:

For Winter:

I never experienced a Winter until I went to New York. While all the locals knew what to do, and wear, I was lost. My first time I had on a coat that was more cute than warm. It was a big mistake. I quickly learned that layers were going to be my best friend. This time of year is perfect for wearing sweats, and styling them up with a faux fur coat.

Here are some outfits I’ve worn in Winter:

Cheetah Girl

Jumpsuit from Fashion Nova// Beret and Jacket from Forever 21

Cheetah girl cheetah siissssstuuuuuuuh. If you sang that then I love you and we’re now best friends. Animal print has been so trendy this fall and I am here for it. Colors can get old but patterns make outfits fun. When my friends saw this one piece they were like “omg you could be a cheetah for Halloween!” lol no. I’m going to wear this in a regular outfit because it deserves that. Why would I want to feel fierce one night of the year? I swear I felt cheetahlicious confident in this all day.

I toned it down with a light, denim jacket (if you don’t have one, you should! It’s a timeless staple piece) and my hair down. Simple details like that can really make a difference. For instance, if I would’ve had my hair up I would have felt too exposed. I also threw on this beret to add some chic vibes.

The old myspace caption “Rawr :D” would really be appropriate. Comment that on the picture I just posted on my instagram @lionlizz so I know where my blogger fam at ❤

Jaja no. Me encanta usar piezas únicas.

POLKA DOTS

Dress and wedges from Forever 21

My style changes with the days, the seasons and of course my mood. Lately I’ve been feeling really chic and colorful! Patterns have been catching my eye and polka dots are super trendy this Summer. I actually have this dress in blue, shown in my birthday post, here, the fit was flattering + comfy. So when I saw it in orange polka dots I HAD to get it! Oh did I mention it was only $15? YES GIRL, make your way on over to your local Forever 21.

This dress was supper cheap and I was out in the streets of NYC with all the confidence haha. It really doesn’t matter about the brand or the price, as long as you feel good, that’s all that matters. 🙂 The wedges are also from Forever 21, don’t they just scream SUMMER?! I felt like my feet were presents! The peachy dress and soft blue really worked well together because they are both pastels, and with the same chic vibes. They were totally complementary of one another.

YEAR 22

Dress from Forever 21// Coat from Primark// Shoes by Fila

I am now writing this post as a 22 year old. AHHHH, what is time!? This past year was very transformative, and quite possibly one of the best years of my life. In school, love, work and “adult responsibilities” haha, it has all been dramatically progressive. 21 was AMAZING, so I can only imagine what 22 has in store for me! Even though I’ll always be 21 at heart 😉

My birthday outfit haaad to be most representative of me, so I wore a baby blue dress (sponsored by my baby ❤ )and pink foe fur coat. My birthday fell on a Monday, so I wanted to be chic yet causal. The perfect way to casual down any outfit is to pair it with sneakers. I wore my new chrome Fila’s (a gift from the best brothaaa) which gave it the perfect edge.

Thanks for all the sweet, wishes on my 22nd year of life friends! Here’s to another year of love, light and of course cute outfits!

Shoes & purse from Charming Charlie// Trousers from Target// Top & Hat from Forever 21

Reason #123646191873 why I love living in California, I CAN WEAR CROP TOPS IN WINTER. The past few weeks it has definitely been beach weather, but all of sudden it decided to drop below 60 during the week, rude. ANYWAYS, last weekend I decided to go with a chic, street look. I’ ve been obsessing over red lately, maybe it’s cause of Valentines day, or cause I’m in love, or because it’s just cute! Hahaa. Whatever the reason may be, catch me in red all Winter/Spring long.

I typically don’t match this much, but each piece in this outfit was extremely distinct and unique. It was the details throughout this look that really pulled it together, avoiding that “matchy-matchy” look. The shoes had a puff ball which I ADORED, they reminded me of the modernized plastic shoes I always wore as a child!

CITY OF STARS

& T-Shirt from Forever 21// Skirt from H&M// Sneakers Fenty by Puma// Nylons from Target// Jean Jacket from Cisco

Hey dolls, hope you’re all enjoying 2018! 2017 was a MAJOR transitional year for me. I grew in love, life and personally. As the first month of the year comes to an end, I’m very content with where I’m at in life right now. This is the year all my hard work and progress pays off. The journey to be where I’m at now was also a fun ride, but it feels AMAZING to finally be where I worked so hard to be. Time to chase the next goal! ❤

Something that has always remained the same, regardless of my life circumstances is, my style. Forever weird, and forever proud about it. There are some people that understand and appreciate how I piece together my looks, while others label my sense of fashion “weird.” Regardless of what others thought/think, I constantly live by FORGET THE RULES, IF YOU LIKE IT WEAR IT.

The style featured in this look is possibly my favorite. Street wear with a dash of chic, perfectly defines me. The T-Shirt could have been worn casually, but I dressed it up with a leather skirt and a beret. It’s always fun to accessorize a simple piece, and turn it into something unique!

California Winter

Dress from Buffalo Exchange// Coat from Burlington// Earrings from Target// Boots from Andrea// Purse from Charming Charlie

California is VERY special…for many reasons. My favorite being that there isn’t really a winter! I mean it’ll get “chilly” and those are the times I could take advantage, and make use of my coats haha. The dress was a must have for me when I saw it becaaaaause it was thrifted, and it’s so versatile! I can make it look different in any look by simply adding different layers.

These kind of outfits are my favorite. The ones that look interesting and have people wonder “what’s that?” I was SO excited to use my purse from Charming Charlie because most of my purses are small, cross bodies. This purse was a definite mom size, so I was excited to test it out haha. It also worked great as a statement accessory for my outfit, it really pulled the whole look together. Each piece in an outfit, whether it’s a bracelet, ring, shoes or a purse, all matter because they all contribute to the final look of YOUR perfect outfit. That’s what I love about accessories! They can easily dress up or down any look.

RED FT. REBELLIOUS FASHION

IMG_8352IMG_8348IMG_8308IMG_8554IMG_8285IMG_8312Corset Top from Forever 21// Earrings from Charming Charlie// Trousers from Rebellious Fashion// Shoes from Spaza

RED is so fun! It’s a really strong so I typically stay away from it, but as of lately I have been loving color in my wardrobe. I paired these adorable cigarette trousers from Rebellious Fashion , with more neutral tones. This made the look a little softer and really helped emphasize the trousers, they were the star of my outfit! Again, I was super skeptical about ordering pants online but these hugged me just right. The sash at the waist and ruffled trimming highlighted my waist, which is always a plus.

The Top is actually a corset…haha but I got creative with it and wore it as a tube top. Using pieces of clothes in a different way than they were intended or designed to use is always a good idea! This way you get variety! Don’t be afraid to get creative with your clothes Queens 🙂

Use my discount code LIONLIZZ10 at checkout to get $$ off your Rebellious Fashion order! ❤

LAYERS IN FALL

image1image3image4image1image2Tights & Top from Target// Dress & purse from Forever 21// Shoes from Macy’s// Belt from H&M

Layering is definitely going to be a common trait in my Fall outfits. For now, since it’s still slowly cooling off in SoCal it’ll be light pieces, but it’ll slowly start to turn into cardigans and jackets. So it’s time to unbox my faux fur coats!

It’s honestly never that cold in Cali, but I enjoy being extra haha.

I wore this dress in a previous post but worn completely different. It’s possible to rewear certain pieces without making it look the same! Buying and using versatile pieces in your wardrobe is SOOO handy. The dress is sheer, which made it easy to create a totally different ensemble underneath. I decided to go with all black under, wearing pant length tights and added belt to give me some shape. Each piece was simple on its own, but when I brought them together, a unique outfit was born! 😉

WHITE ON WHITE

image1fullsizeoutput_21efullsizeoutput_21ffullsizeoutput_219fullsizeoutput_223fullsizeoutput_221image1image2Pants from Forever 21// Top from Nasty Gal// Belt from Thrift Store// Shoes from Spaza

Oiii amigos! I spent last weekend in NorCal and decided to go with a bold, all white look. Thank goodness I live in California, where it’s still okay to wear crop tops in the Fall haha (I’m not quite ready to stop wearing them! Maybe in December I will be 😉 ) Well my outfit was for a cocktail party so I was going for a comfy + classy look. A skirt or a dress isn’t the only option when “getting dressed up.”

One of my favoritteee things to do is a fashion challenge, creating an outfit that requires trial and error until I find exactly what I envisioned. My fashion mission was: Find a cocktail worthy outfit that is appropriate for day and night. Since the top and bottom were sleek, I styled my hair with chunky curls and added a metal belt for detail. Those two elements really helped tie this outfit together! Also, how cute is this thrifted belt?! It was honestly my favorite part of my outfit and for a bangin’ price of $1.50, thrift shops never disappoint me. Not only do I like that their products are super cost efficient, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that I always find unique, vintage finds.

LIFE UPDATE: YA GIRL GOT ACCEPTED INTO HER #1 UNIVERSITY CHOICE FOR SPRING 2018! AHHHHH

Oiii amigos!
